Online networking is a fabulous way to publicise your business, and all from the comfort and privacy of your own desk. You can even do it in your PJs, if you're so inclined.
The Dos and Dont's of online networking..
* Do lurk for a while, getting to know who is who and the etiquette of the forum or discussion group.
* Talking of etiquette, do make sure that you follow this. Some forums are pretty much a free for all and don't mind you doing a bit of sales pitching now and again, others even frown at the mention of your business in your signature.
*Do offer advice and feednack to other members - think what you can offer them rather than what they can do for you.
* Don't flame (denounce or attack in public). If you have an issue with someone, take it offline or via personal emails.
* Don't reply to the whole group if someone has asked for personal information in their answer - be careful of those "Reply to All" buttons that are so easily pressed.
* Do invest time - it can takes months of concerted effort to become accepted as a member for some forums.
